NIPA Rd 5 – Photojournalism

On Tuesday 26 February we had the last of the NIPA Interclub Competition rounds for the season. As usual images for Round 5 were to be a specific photographic genre, and this year the chosen genre was Photojournalism.

Our judge for the evening was Judith Kimber LIPF DPAGB from Bangor & North Down Camera Club. It was lovely to have Judith back in CPA again following her audio visual presentation earlier in the season which was tremendously well-received.

The non-Open rounds of competition frequently have a smaller number of entries, possibly as some club members are hesitant to step outside their ‘comfort zone’: frequently shooting images to a specific theme or genre can be challenging but it does have its own rewards. Judith commented on all of the entries, which comprised 14 mono and 14 colour prints and 17 projected digital images. Thank you, Judith, for your time and expertise. Her selection was as follows:

Mono
1st. Chelle McGaughey – One Name on the Wall
2nd. Pauline McAleese – We Will Remember Them
3rd. Steve Haydon – The End of the Line
4th. Vittorio Silvestri – Hard Graft

Colour
1st. Pauline McAleese – Tension
2nd. Vittorio Silvestri – The Three Amigos +1
3rd. Pauline McAleese – Missing – In Action
4th. Helen Honeyman – The Three Amigos

PDI
1st. William Allen – Beyond Brexit
2nd. Chelle McGaughey – Remembrance
3rd. Vittorio Silvestri – Petitions and Thanksgiving
4th. Chelle McGaughey – Working in the Whiteout
N. William Young – Fireman

Congratulations to William Young, one of our new members this year, on having his first image go through to NIPA.
